Honestly I am shocked by how many people are “living their passion” but not making any money! Watch this video about a conversation with my good friend Owen JJ Stone, aka Ohdoctah:
So here is my two cents:
1-stop hanging out with broke people
2-finish what you start
3-develop passion into PROFIT
4-learn sales and marketing
You will be much happier when you do. And if you have personal passion that’s great, but business success, not personal success is about generating revenue. Period. Hard to hear, I bet, but Feisty Ann needed to say it.
So it’s 4Q FY2010, (that’s business lingo) what will you change to be a passionate revenue generator in your business?

All I can say is thankfully I'm learning all this from you so that I too will have the freedom to have my ultimate goals. I'm learning to hang out with the right people, building my pipeline, bringing in other forms of revenue apart from my Au Pair business – although my sales goals have gone waaay up since doing your bootcamp. I have just learned how to get out there and DO it – and my in person selling has improved as a result as well as my online. I did a local event the other day and just found myself naturally 'selling' the Au pair program to people without feeling remotely like a cheap car salesman and I ended up with some really good leads which I am now following up on. Anyone who wants to learn confidence in their sales and marketing NEEDS your bootcamp as far as I'm concerned. Watch my earnings grow I say 🙂
Ann, it's always spooky when someone speaks directly to what I'm working on in my business. I was working with goal buddy finalizing my One Page Business Plan. Sales was a major topic.
Thanks for your key points.
You are definitely right, Ann. If we are not profitable, something needs to change. We are, thankfully, seeing a profit this year…it has been a long, hard road with many lessons, many changes along the way. I believe we are on the upswing now; just need to continue along that line. Staying engaged, keeping a positive attitude, being around other positive and encouraging and supportive people, all help tremendously. I appreciate how you share what you have learned and how encouraging it has been to me, too. Thank you!
My goal of monetizing my passion is SO far in the future…. I don't have a product or a service to sell. my (Atti's) blog is a platform for me to play with my writing and (hopefully) gain followers, as that's what publishers look for in new authors— followers. How to gain more readership is a challenge for me.

You know the adage – 'Work hard, play hard.' That's my philosophy and this Vlog fits in with it so well. I have a passion for what I do and I love to live life too. Thanks for helping me to further this! Emily Davis
My two cents on your two cents…
1-stop hanging out with broke people – spiritually as well as financially
2-finish what you start – an idea is not a business
3-develop passion into PROFIT – not every passion can be profitable, pick the one that can and run with it.
4-learn sales and marketing – it is a skill, you can learn it. There are a few with natural ability (my husband and my 9 year old daughter) and even they get better through education and application.
Thanks for shining a light on the path.
Wonderful post! I've worked with clients who have been spending all their discretionary income (and a lot of the non-discretionary too!) on fueling their business but not making any money. It takes a mindset shift, practical steps, and some time to turn things around.

That's what I need, to learn on to be a sales person!
A great motto: “finish what you start”
thanks for the feisty message! Definitely one for me.
1. What? Evade my unemployed pals?
2. Which project should I start to finish first?
3. Craigslist won't let me anymore.
4. I did, I am, I will…. continue to do so.
Thx for the straight talk advice Ann.
Thanks for the reminder! I'm often caught up in the passion and not focused on the business aspect. I like your direct approach!
