Online Reputation Management– a hot topic these days. If you aren’t a part of the conversation, then you can’t manage it- I get that. BUT Online Reputation Management is also about being able to FIND what people are saying about you when they don’t notify you. Easy for blog posts and website through Google Alerts. A piece of cake on Twitter with searches. But Facebook? It seems that if they don’t TAG or post to your page, you don’t know.
There is actually a way to know if someone talks about your business on facebook! Since not everyone will TAG or post to your fan page wall, it’s important to know if your business name is typed into a post on facebook so that you can manage the conversation! A community page will pull any content that uses your business name! What? How? Watch this video for details:
Create your community page by editing your profile and where you work. Make sure you use the name of your business that people use -this will create that page and up the searches. Check it once or twice a week. I love that I am able to be a part of conversations that people don’t think I see!

Oh, what a great post! I also have created a Google Alert for my company to see where it shows up “out there.” Thanks for the information!
You understand from this that facebook posts to NOT show up in your google alerts?
Every time I think I understand Facebook, I learn there is more to know! I really didn’t know about community pages, no less the kind of reputation management you are talking about. Whew! Going in now to explore this on FB in general and on my page.
Thanks!
Wow there is just so much to learn with social media. I did realize that the biz page was separate from the page you showed, but didn’t realize there would be a benefit to keeping it as is instead of linking it. Thanks for your sharing your knowledge. There is always something to learn indeed. 🙂
How interesting! I had no idea about that. In fact, the last thing I was ever told about a community page was NOT to set one up! I just might take a peek into one now!
You do have to be careful because it is community driven and you do not control the content. I had mine up for about a year and took it down last month (had to have Facebook delete it) because it got hijacked. If you are going to do one, you have to maintain it and look at it every day.
You mentioned the community page and why it is important to keep them
separate (as far as reputation management) via a teleseminar or webinar I
was on a few months ago … But I hadn’t made the connection about how
it could help me as an independent consultant of a home party company —
but I do now!!! Heading to Facebook to change my work info and have my
community page ‘appear’ — thanks as always for your unique look at
things and outside of the box marketing strategies that are so spot on!

PS — since I do have a FB page it took me a minute to figure out how to
add my company and NOT link it to the existing page. It will pull up a
list of pages as you type but at the bottom of the list you have the
option to ‘add’ what you are typing.
Another amazing tip from you Ann. Fascinating! I am off to go check my settings. Thank you!
This is so true! I teach this very tactic in my 90 Day Reputation Challenge! I first tried this last year with CIA! Thought it was a joke, but tried it and was like Ah Ha! So cool! Great video!
Had mine sorted for quite a while – but then so I should as one of your
coaches! Of course I wouldn’t have known without you….

Thanks, Ann. Fascinating info, and now I’m in a pickle. Perhaps others are, too. My question: Could I use the Community Page just as a utility for monitoring my FB “mentions”, while retaining my Fan Page as my employer on my profile? If so, how?
Background: Some months ago, I found Facebook had altered my profile, replacing my Fan Page with their Community Page as my employer. Fearing my Fan Page (with its posts and comments) would be much less visible and stop receiving fans, and realizing I had no control over the content on the Community Page, I contacted Facebook and “claimed” their page. Several months later they merged the two, and transferred the Community Page’s fans to my Fan Page.
Does the Community Page still exist?
Robbie- I seem to remember you pm-ing me on facebook a competitors blog about who to ATTACH the 2 and I told you then I don’t recommend it! Now that you have claimed it- you cannot to it for your company- but you could probably do it for your name 😉
Wow, this is a great tip….have to check my profile/settings…..love that you can see and particpate without being tagged from the get go….very cool! Would expect nothing more than veering from the status quo from the Warrior Preneur! Thanks for sharing the little things that make a BIG difference in the SoMe world!

Love this and wondered why yours was the way it was and mine was different. So I went back to my profile and tried to add it again using my page name and it still linked it to my page even though I didn’t get a link drop down. I’m going to go play with it until I get it right! You are brilliant. I’m so glad you are my coach and mentor. I can’t imagine where I’d be if I’d hooked up with someone else instead of you first! My stars were all aligned the night I met you!

Hmmm…I’m kind of in a quandary…I did have my employer set up as my DS company. This pointed to a community page of that co. That doesn’t seem to be of much use to me so I just changed it (2 days ago) so my employer links to my page (opposite of what you are saying.) However, I don’t think anyone will just happen to use my very long page name, I think they’d most likely mention my name. Should I use my name as my employer and have a community page created for my name? Then if someone talks about me w/o tagging I’d see it?!
I REALLY like this idea Pat- thought about doing it myself!
Thanks Ann,
I finally get it. I didn’t even know what a community page was. Now, if I have a facebook group that I formed how is that different from a community page or is that one and the same thing?
I apologize for being a little dense with this but sometimes it is a bit overwhelming
Happy THursday,
Holli
That’s ok Holli! It’s what I do! No a group is different than a community page, than a business page, than a profile- all different with different uses!
Can you Please show me an example of a community page thru fb.? I guess that’s where I’m confused. I know there are online communities but I wasn’t aware of fb communities, only groups.
Thanks!
This is not the first time I’ve heard you talk about these, and not the first time I’ve tried to set it up as you suggest. But alas, I cannot figure it out. If I edit my personal profile, click on Employer, Wealth Ships is there, but I can’t edit the name. Since the name is identical to my fan page, when people click on my employer, it goes to my fan page. I’m so confused how to create a community page. Would love a video that shows step by step how to change it. Oh well, guess it’s not meant for me to change it, for now!

Well, another great tip about Facebook. I will go into my profile page and attempt to sort it out. Would be great to isolate both of my tutoring businesses with a community page.
This is definitely information that I need to bookmark for future reference. My VA is great; however, Facebook knowledge is weak. Created a Fan Page (or Community Page) and I decided to ‘hide’ it for now.
guruexpertdivas! Love it! I am still figuring out some of the FB things as far as tagging etc goes so this is some good info… I will look at the steps you mentioned
