Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk is an interesting story about passion. More importantly it’s about BRAND:
I think in this day and age EVERYONE should be a brand. Relying on a company to define you is never going to make you stand out among the millions of people qualified to work in our world. Too often people find someone they admire (and if you read Gary’s book, he is very inspirational) and try and “imitate” or “be like” them, but learning to be uniquely you is key.
When I work with my clients this is a big part of what we work on. I find that many people think they know their voice and have a voice, but when you really get to know them, it’s someone elses voice, someone they just want to be like.
What are you doing to find the brand that is uniquely you?

This is a great topic for me today because I am in the Social Networking Coaching Club, so am gearing up to learn about my voice, my brand, my presentation. When I started blogging I faced this, as I struggled with the tone, direction, and purpose (which perhaps still remains to be discovered in part!) I felt like I should be like other bloggers. Part of finding what I have found so far came just from the doing–writing, trying things out, seeing what felt true to me.
Curious about the title “Crush It” – not sure what it means, but I like the quote from page 9. One thing for sure, Ann, you are YOU in your videos! Very enjoyable to watch.

I’ve read Gary’s book and I agree with his statement that everyone needs to be a brand. I think that is one of the absolute best things about social media…that you can develop your brand without having to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising. The Internet and social media platforms have made this possible for everyone and redistributed the influence and power to anyone willing to put in the time to learn how to do it effectively.

Darcie you hit on the one aspect of branding I was thinking about while watching the video. How social media is really the advent of personal branding. Branding used to be about the big companies, now it’s BrandU (the other book I’ve been meaning to read).
I have just started reading this book and am loving it. But of course I am learning this from you before I even read this. Interestingly, when I did C4 I think I only got part of the way there. I ‘got’ it but I didn’t GET it. I’m now starting to and I can’t wait to go through your online bootcamp again to REALLY nail my brand. Lou Loves Learning still fits but I need to focus it even more. Of course reading books like this helps along the way too – I’ll take the inspiration from everywhere but I’m going to focus all that in January when we redo the bootcamp.
This is a topic that has been difficult for me, I’m still sorting it out. As a person in direct selling we are trained to make our businesses duplicate-able and that sometimes confuses the issue of branding yourself (at least it confused me.) It finally hit me that they aren’t at odds with each other, I can show others the mechanics of how to do the business and also help them to find their own special brand/niche. We can represent and love a company & product line but still be our own true selves. I’m still a work-in-progress and was enticed by special to sign up for Coaching Club, so will put one foot in front of the other…

Well as I am new to all of this I am still learning. I don’t know what my brand is but I think I will figure that in the training if not this time with C4 then once I start on the new training. I have not read this book yet but will look out for it. Thanks Ann

Awesome Ann! It’s not about making yourself into someone you want to be, it’s about who you already are and using that to touch people. It’s about being genuinely you…without compromise.
A very wise warrior told me a few months ago about Branding myself and it has been my goal ever since. Branding myself was actually one of my limiting beliefs because I was not sure what is was I was Branding. Thanks to you Ann I realized it was “Who I am” and not “what I do” . Of course it is still a HUGE work in progress but one I am confident I will nail with the help of my GREAT coach. 🙂

Hey, Ann, I’m really feeling you in this video. Just like you, I come from a pretty average upbringing and I can’t relate to Gary’s inheritance, however, we can create our own opportunities through branding. This is something everyone inherited from birth – a unique story to tell that will ultimately help you grow your business. Great video, thanks for sharing the book, I’ll have to look into it!

Have never thought of myself in terms of branding before, so this is a new way to look at myself. I am motivated to zero on what Brand I am. I think what I am learning and doing right now with SNCC will help me with this, so my goal is to have that Brand in place before or by the time I graduate from the bootcamp; I love the way your videos are stirring up my brain to come out of hibernation!
So So true. Being an artist, my name and my style is my brand. I was very upset to find out there is another Amy Pryor who is also an artist. I needed to add Fine Art to my name. That has turned out to be a blessing. If someone sees just my name, they don’t know what I do. Now everything I post has Amy Pryor Fine Art attached to it.
I think one of the things that will give me an advantage is my focus towards search engine optimization. I’ve done a lot of research and I it doesn’t seem as though a lot of artists are using SEO. Online art galleries may be, but not individuals. I think that will get a lot more people seeing my work in the future. I think a lot of galleries would like to know I have great skills to drive traffic to my site. What gallery wouldn’t want a great artist AND a great marketer?
I’m just saying.
Amy Pryor
Ann- What this video evokes in me is the whole concept of authenticity. To be the real you. To learn from the knowledge, experience and talent of other people and then make that authentic to you by taking those lessons and going on from there by putting your own personal spin on it. I think that is what you do with your coaching. You give everyone your knowledge and experience and then push them to use that and brand themselves as them (not you). For them to be authentic. Good video.

Okay, so how do I determine what my brand is? Is it a constant or does it change over time?
You’re the second person this week who has recommended Crush It! Hmmm!
