So I wanted to do a little video on the Google cluckerfck (yes it is) that has been created with recent changes. This video only covers part of the issues, the rest I share below.
Wow- WHAT a MESS. Several other issues with this new system:
- There are many of us that help manage our clients’ YouTube accounts and more Google related products, I should NEVER have access to the gmail.
- If I use the multiple user option, I could not get important email or calendar events for MY COMPANY.
- If I want to be a part of Google + I have to use my gmail account (because for SOME reason my PAID company gmail account cannot have a profile), which logs me out of my business account so I cannot see my calendar, get reminders etc.
Really Google, you did not think this through. If someone knows the magical work around I’d be THRILLED to know.

What a nightmare, Ann! What were they smoking at Google when they thought this up? Keep us posted if it gets straightened out. How frustrating!

I’ve seen complaints about an Google app account not be able to use Google+ .. in Google+ and directed towards the Google employees .. so hopefully the complaint is being heard. Google has an opportunity to handle the multiple identity management aspect of our lives better than Facebook, so far it’s not happening. Time will tell.
Sounds like they rushed into it without thinking it through
Well, that is a shame for you and the thousands of other users who pay and manage other people’s stuff. Not good for anyone involved. A bad job that I wonder how they will handle from a PR standpoint. Do you think they care? Sometimes I wonder with companies that are so big and have such a loyal following. Not good.
I was pissed that my paid company Gmail account didn’t qualify for Google+, but tolerated it because it is technically still in the testing phase. Were you on G+ that day we got all of our notifications dozens of times? That was fun :-/
This Google account multiple sign in problem pre-dates the Google+ launch for me. I used to be able to be signed into multiple paid Gmail accounts within different tabs of the same browser window. Not any more. It drives me nuts, because now I’m constantly choosing between my paid applications’ accounts. The ‘not totally loving it’ work around I use is a multiple browser solution: Chrome for one sign in, Firefox for another, and Safari window as well if I must. Feels backwards and anti-technology to me.
yes Dorothy I am well aware of the log out issues starting a short whole back, but it wasn’t logging me into the gmail account at the same time. And unfortunately I cannot run IE on my computer, but you are also right that it is backwards technology and ANTI support of BUYERS of their products.
Have any of you checked into the “multiple sign in” option? Go to Account Overview, and there a “Multiple Sign in” option you can toggle on and off. I haven’t used it but wondering if it might address your issue. Sadly it won’t address the Google+ / Google app issue.
Kathy this is what I speak to in #2 above- if you use that and go offline (log out/shut down) of one account they do not guarantee delivery of email and calendar notifications.
Yep you are right, they make you check a box acknowledging that.
The worst part is you can’t call Google. You can email I believe but getting through to google is near impossible. I still don’t understand what google + is supposed to give you but it’s pretty obvious, it’s more a google – application. Funny though that they sent the invitation to the account they won’t let you use for the service. Back to the drawing board.

I’ve certainly been hearing about these new Google concerns, although I haven’t been involved personally with most of these issues. Even from the outside I can see how crazy making these problems would be–signing in as one account, not accessing other important tools, not being able to get email… Google seems (to me) to be trying desperately to gain more market, and perhaps they are avoiding the careful work that would take care of these details. How many frustrated bloggers will I find if I Google “Google problems”?!

I am thinking that I am going to go to one social network..come fall, I may re-evaluate and run with one. I am not sure if I have time to build each one and now with the points that you mention….hiring someone opens me up to email harm via login issues with google. I will see….hopefully, everything will get worked out?!!?! Rachel
Oh wait, reading through these options a little closer. It says you may lose any unsent mail. So that’s different than what you say above “do not guarantee delivery of email and calendar notifications”. As I understand it. it means that your offline activity won’t get synced up properly when you connect back online not that anything won’t get delivered to you. Have you had an experience to the contrary? that would be really bad to lose emails sent to you.
multiple sign in does not work with YouTube, and the details of the boxes you must check clearly states: Offline Mail and Offline Calendar will be disabled. You may lose any unsent mail. That for me is a HIGH risk
I’ve experinced some Google issues and thought it was just me, just one of the little guys. Your blog clears that matter up for me, but frustrates me as well. Totally speaks to ‘what were they thinking?’ Hopefully, someone @Google will make a stronger pot of coffee and get this fixed….soon.
Wow! Well only being me so far I haven’t come across any of these issues and have always been a fan of google and all it’s apps etc. – I don’t pay – didn’t know there was an option to – oops! I hope they are bright and forward thinking enough to sort this out!

Yikes! Someone at Google has to know this is a major flustercluck! Negatively affecting paying customers AND email security issues….ummm, bad ideas! Can’t imagine what they were thinking….or how they are scrambling to fix this (we hope) but if they want people to use them they better right the wrong…and fast! Not allowing people to use your their paid account….isn’t the way you want to hit the ground running with a new product…eeek, bad decision making! Thank you for pointing out the outrageous bloopers….that can and will affect people accessing client accounts…it does put them (both) at risk!!!

I guess there was a little too much brain power and not enough common sense when Google made these changes. Hopefully, they will realize the roadblocks they’ve made and right the ship!
I haven’t had any issues because I don’t use the amount of services that you do. However, if I do, it is nice to get a heads up on it.
Yikes! That’s why I love early-adaptors. They help get the kinks out! Report your problems. You probably won’t hear from anyone, but at least you’ll add a voice to what I am sure is a mounting problem they need to address.
This may work: Wendy Sako Here is my way around it. her client must need to change their settings. I am signed in to my personal account on Chrome and work on Firefox (both Google. You can’t be signed into both using the same browser. I input my meetings etc to only one calendar but have it visible on both. I have Cindy’s non Google account calendar visible on both. My BB is set up to sync them all. I have my personal contacts and my work contacts in their appropriate accounts and I can forward on my BB from one account to a contact from another account. [Wendy Sako is my sister-in-law]
What always amazes me in these situations is the evidently missing piece of review by those who will in fact be USING the darn thing! Surely this misconceived latest baby of Google wasn’t given a dry run or at least an adequate one. It kind of reminds me of what they say in the music business about a new band, “Let’s just throw it at the wall and see if it sticks!” But even moreso in the complicated world of internet connections, that is not a valid philosophy. Because let’s face it, if YOU with all your experience and savvy couldn’t make a go of it, what chance is there for the rest of us? (Except that we have you to suss it out!!)
This does sound like a mess. I haven’t even looked into Google + yet and based on this recommendation, I think I’ll wait until the kinks are worked out. I’ll be looking for more updates from you and Laurie on SNCC about Google +. Thanks for being our tester of new stuff as usual.
What can I say except that I’m glad I hadn’t installed it yet…prefer to wait and see what happens when it comes to the tech world – so I can read of people’s experience. Thanks for sharing, Ann! 🙂

I’ve never been a gmail user or Google apps user. I only use YouTube (thanks, Ann) so am not experiencing any of these problems. I do have a gmail account that I use occasionally and guess I’m glad right now. Seems to me that if Google wants to play with the big boys and girls, they better get their act together!

has it been awhile since you have logged into your YouTube account Susan? They now REQUIRE you use a gmail account
I’m going to borrow the word “cluckerfuck.” I love it.
I also have issues using my Google mail, calendar, etc. The process needs to be streamlined and more user friendly. Hopefully Google is working to fix these issues.
Whoa, this is crazy! I guess I don’t understand Google+; the people that created and host and manage my web site asked me if I wanted it on my web page that it would help me with Google ranking and also give people the opportunity to like my web site. So I said OK and they did whatever they did. But I have no idea about what you are describing here and don’t have a clue as to how this all ties in to what they did for me…I guess I need to have them read your blog, Ann, and ask them What the heck? I never received an invitation from Google, by the way. Am very confused about all this right now!
I can understand why Google might want to rush into competing with Facebook. But I’m astonished that the Google folks would overlook this gigantic glitch, and I’ll stand by to see how they respond. In the meantime, a few friends invited me to join G+, and I did, and I find that for my “single-user” purposes, it’s got a few amazing features that FB lacks. G+ doesn’t seem to be a Facebook “killer”, but I hope both Google and Facebook will get sharper from the competition, and we’ll all benefit. Let’s hope this glitch will be just the first problem to be solved or streamline to be introduced.
I have recently been converting more and more of my business to google apps, and just recently adopted google docs. After google+, I noticed I was having difficulty logging in to see all of my information when I needed it and having to juggle between two log-ins. I thought it was me, not being familiar with using google+ until I watched this video and realized, that’s how it’s currently designed. Fingers crossed something changes soon. I’ve stopped trying to figure out google+ because it’s just too complicated at this point and time consuming.
