I was asked to talk about productivity and social media in order to increase profits at the US Small Business Conference in the San Francisco Bay area. As I thought about this subject I realized that most people think that productivity comes from having a tool that will speed up and or organize what they do. While this is not completely untrue, tools can help greatly, I think that productivity in social media starts with WHAT before HOW to be successful.
There are several things that I teach my clients about productivity with their social media strategy. Here are 3 tips of several I will share in my presentation.
1-Develop and use an editorial calendar. This helps you strategize launches, what you need to educate about prior to a sale or”push” for events or ebook. Considering what it I call the “social media funnel” is critical for that success. How you move and “funnel” friends and followers from social media, to your blog, to your newsletter and back plays into what you have on your editorial calendar. Planning this saves considerable time.
2-Have five core themes that are based on your brand that you can continuously write content to. These core themes allow you to focus content, gather relevant relate able information, and writing of your content. Having these themes also helps your mind to focus and write. Also relate your themes to your editorial calendar.
3-Plan to repeat and repurpose your content. Most entrepreneurs are killing a tremendous amount of time trying to come up with new content to post on their social media every day. If you build a system of great tips and insights that will help your customers and then rewrite each tip to the 4 Warrior buying styles and preferences your content will go further than ever before. If you repurpose the same content for eBooks, article submissions and video, you have reached even more potential customers.
These are just a few of the strategies I will share- you can access the handout and powerpoint presentation for more though!!

I was actually just asking for some ideas to get an editorial calendar together because I need to get my content more organized and efficient. Great timing 🙂 I’ve got my 5 themes and am carving out time to pre-write some posts. My best writing is usually spur of the moment inspiration, so writing ahead of time is tough as I often use timely examples. Trying to change that to make my posts more timeless as possible.
Lucky conference attendees who get to hear your clarity and wisdom about how to create a strategy that Is productive. I am still in early stages of getting my feet wet in this SoMe world, but am consistently inspired by how you frame all of marketing in terms of both relationships and strategies that make utter sense. As I formulate my own through SNCC, I am thrilled that I will have this kind of guiding light
I’m really good at tip #2 and getting better at #3 (but I have a fear around people thinking I’m being repetitive – working on getting past that.) The editorial calendar is the hardest for me probably because I resist such things – I’m realizing that I’m allowed to modify or venture away from the calendar as needed (that’s actually a hard concept for me!)
These are great tips, Ann. I especially like the idea of five core themes. We are all inundated with so much information these days that the possibilities are endless. I can see how narrowing one’s focus/goals will help sharpen content. Thank you!
Being new to the SNCC way, I have begun to implement the three strategies mentioned and I appreciate how it is helping me be more focused while keeping me excited about the process. Thanks for a great program Ann!

Great tips, I will admit, I started the editorial calender but have not really used it. I often refer to my themes that I created in SNCC and have been using those, but one day. #2 Ihave done and really trying to stick to the 5 themes. When I get tired of repeating myself with tweets, I do re-write them. So much great info really spending time implementing each lesson.
Yes, these are the tips you teach and I use. Saves lots and lots of time and is very strategic. You know what you are talking about because you do what you teach. Not everyone can say that!

I’m so pleased that I recognized these tips! Now I’d be more pleased if I used them consistently. But I am on my way with all, especially #2 and #3. I haven’t found the best approach yet for my editorial calendar, but I certainly know the wisdom of it and this is a good motivation to get back to that task.
Thanks Ann for sharing these tips. When I first became a writer and took a writing class, I was told about your tip #3 and it has been very helpful for me. We don’t have to recreate the wheel every time we sit down to write! I am pretty focused on my message, so I think I am pretty good with tip #2. It’s tip #1 that I’ll work on. I think it’s a great idea to think about how the message is shared and how the audience is involved through the various social media channels. Great ideas from a proven expert!
Wow, it’s interesting how I’ve come up with some things organically in my marketing strategy. It’s fun for me to compare what I was supposed to do and what I’ve done before! Good tips!
Love the consistency in the message you are a real pro and I am thrilled to be part of your Tribe. I still have work to do but having these reminders makes the task at hand easier. Hope you have a great speaking event wish I could be there.
I really need to work on creating this plan. I don’t know why I have such a mindset against having a plan but I do! This all makes perfect sense. So why do I resist? Resistance is futile according to the Borg! (OK, you have to be a Star Trek fan to get that reference!).

I am looking forward to your presentation on Friday – these tips are a great starting point to a social media strategy. Some of us are just out there doing the social media thing without much of a plan and that doesnt get us the results that we are looking for. I am going to sit back and see how much if your tips I actually am incorporating and what I ahoukd improve.
I wish I could attend the conference! would love to hear your presentation in person! I started an editorial calendar a while ago (SNCC!), but have sadly not been keeping it up. I really like the concept of themes and also repurposing.. I just need to do it! I have been pretty scattered lately going in too many different directions, so appreciate your blogs and teaching that helps me remember what I should be focusing on in terms of our social media/marketing efforts. Thanks!
Getting organized and having a strategy regarding social media was the main reason I signed up for SNCC training. Love all three tips and am working on implementing them. I think they will be key to my success and ability to keep going. If I rely on coming up with new stuff every day, I know from past experience that it either takes me forever, or even more likely I just don’t do it… I greatly appreciate you clarity.
Thank You Ann. I would be lost in the woods without you. There is no better tool to have for travel from point A to point B than a map. That is what you provide to me in my journey to the top of my business mountains.
Thanks Ann. I am always trying to find new things to talk about in addition to find the time to post on a regular basis. I will keep these tips in mind. Thanks again and enjoy the conference! 🙂
Especially like the first tip— one thing I have been putting off and plan to get to this weekend! Thanks for your great advice.
I really like the idea of focusing on and identifying the themes that are most important to your biz and clients. It’s very easy to be pulled in lots of different directions content-wise – so this is a useful way to stay on point!
