In Step 4 of my MasterMind, COMPEL. Speak. Sell. I spend time talking with my members about the importance of this simple strategy. Step 4 is all about building sales, and this one tip is critical for sales success!
You must call people to action!
When I was a contract speaker for Fred Pryor seminars, I was a “top 1%er” in BOR (back-of-room) sales. I was asked to teach other contract trainers how to sell better from stage. One of the things I would consistently say: “clearly tell the participants what you want them to do!” I meant this in a very literal manner. This completely translates into business sales success. It works as well when you speak and especially on the internet!
Stop hinting, or thinking they know what to do because it seems so obvious to you! I would have participants in my Fred Pryor seminars pull out the order form. I would actually say, “Pull out the order form.” And then I would say, “Circle number seven.” I would say, “Meet me in the back of the room.”
When I first transitioned out on my own I “forgot” to follow this model. (How many of you read my blog about my huge FAILURE speaking at Author101?) It hurt me in the process of selling more, and building my list to sell more. Now I do it all the time and, honestly, I know I need to do EVEN MORE if I want more success.
You must call people to action!
It is important that you tell them exactly what you want them to do. Say “I would like you to share this on Facebook.” OR “I would like you to put your name and email address in the box below.” OR “I would like you to take this form and put your name and email address on it and meet me in the back of the room.” OR “Please put your name and email below to learn more about…”
You must call people to action!
The more frequently you give clear steps, clear calls to action, and tell them what you want, the better your results will be. So go through and look at your presentations, your options, your landing pages, your social media, your blogs….what do you want them to do? Are you calling them to action? Could you do it more often too?

Marketing is about building credibility, vulnerability, and your tribe as I have said in previous articles I have written. I’m sure you’ve heard me say this many times! If that is marketing, then sales this is truly the test.
Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”, would actually argue that the accumulation of money; i.e. sales, is actually the litmus test that you have organized your knowledge in such a way that people understand the monetized value of it.
Sales is the ultimate test that they want what you have to offer. It is the test that demonstrates you are clear:
- About whom you serve,
- What problem you solve for them,
- What logical way you solve those problems,
- What you charge for doing it, and the difference between the actual and perceived value,
- Owning this knowledge and being able to clearly and concisely share it with others is a struggle for most creative and intuitive entrepreneurs. I totally get it. It was for me. That is why my MasterMind is all about helping you make it happen.
Ask yourself:
- Do I have a clear organized plan about the service I sell?
- Am I clear as to who I serve with that clearly defined service?
- Have I clearly defined the problems I help them solve, in their language, so they recognize they need this service?
- Have I created the compelling language that makes them interested in the
offer?
- And am I willing to ask for the price that I have set?
These questions are critical to moving from marketing to sales. Without knowing and owning the answers to them you will probably be well-known, very inspiring, and sell very little. Which is great, but you deserve to earn!

Blogging…some immediately say UGH! Interestingly I have been teaching blogging as the primary online marketing tool since 2006….and ALL the top online marketing experts say it is the BEST strategy to focus on. Last week I shared that marketing is important, well blogging is a GREAT marketing strategy!
Here is the deal…I am saying it again: this is the TOP social media marketing strategy as well as organic search engine strategy (other than YouTube videos!)
I always say: “If you do one thing, BLOG!” Why?
Blogging:
- builds content
- improves your ability to be more compelling
- organically drives traffic
- feeds to your social media
- is the #1 traffic driver to your website
- helps you write a book or a program (in baby steps)
- can be repurposed for social media marketing
- can be reused for social media marketing or even in your automated list building strategy
- and more!
So what are some important guidelines to really make blogging work?
- Be short and sweet. 250-500 words maximum. If it gets long turn it into a series.
- Focus on education based blogs (what I call credibility blogs) AND vulnerability (storytelling blogs.)
- Remember your basic rules for writing: compelling title, opening paragraph that helps the reader understand they are in the right place, closing paragraph in summary.
- Post blogs at least 2 times a week (once a week or less will not drive traffic)
- Write ahead and schedule blogs, this creates less stress!
- Think about what you sell and write blogs about that! If you are truly an expert, you always have some little thing to say (250 words isn’t much!)
In my “30 Days to Content Creation” program, I show you how to create more content for blogging (and other marketing goals…it all fits together). Trust me it’s in you…we just need to draw it out!
